A backyard elevated deck rebuilt in durable Brazilian Ipe (ee-pay), with picture-frame borders, wide stairs, and a modern cable railing that keeps the yard view open.
About this project
This backyard needed a durable outdoor living surface that would hold up to weather and still look intentional from the house. We started at the ground: excavated pier footings, set forms and rebar, and poured a solid support grid on the existing patio area. From there we framed posts, beams, and joists so the structure sits true and level before any hardwood went down. The finish surface is Brazilian ipe — dense tropical hardwood chosen for strength and longevity outdoors. Boards were pulled tight with clamps and consistent spacers, then fastened for a clean face. A picture-frame border wraps the perimeter for a finished edge, and matching wide stairs drop to the lower patio. The railing mixes a wood top rail with dark metal posts and horizontal cable infill, so the craftsmanship of the deck stays the focus while sightlines to the yard stay open.
